Community Service

 Today, we are going to do the question on community service in your textbook. We will read the passages and mark them up and then tomorrow write the essay in class.

HW: Finish "At the Western Place" chapter.

Wednesday

 Today we will try and finish chapter 3 of Language and Composition. First, you have 8 MC questions assigned to you on AP Classroom. Then we need to discuss, briefly, your essays.

Homework: Read THE WARRIOR WOMEN to page 153.

Tuesday

 Today we need to get back to The Language of Composition and look at chapter 3. This chapter is on synthesis.

HOMEWORK: The Woman Warrior pages 113-132

Friday

 Today we are going to discuss The Woman Warrior and then I will give you a choice - 1) To continue the MC questions from yesterday and do the essay on Monday, or 2) To do the essay today and work on the MC questions on Monday.

 Today we are going to discuss the open essay on the AP Language test. We will read and discuss a prompt and look at/score some student examples. 

Then we will get back into The Woman Warrior.

Tomorrow we will look at MC questions and Friday work on an essay. Next week we will get back to THE LANGUAGE OF COMPOSITION.

 Okay, so I gave you the wrong MC questions last Friday. We will need to return to the correct practice test sometime this week. We will also need to look at some more examples of essays - the open question.

Today what I would like to do is look at "Mother Tongue" by Amy Tan and discuss potential thematic connections with The Woman Warrior. We will then look at the next chapter of The Woman Warrior.

 We are going to discuss THE WOMAN WARRIOR and move onto THE LANGUAGE OF COMPOSITION. Note you will need to - probably on Tuesday - write something that analyzes the structure of THE WOMAN WARRIOR as seen in the juxtaposition of chapters 1 and 2. 

HW: Write the second video and take notes of fallacies.

 Today, we need to read The Language of Composition chapter 3, discuss The Woman Warrior, and do assigned AP MC questions.

 Today, you need to turn in your Assata tests - if you haven't done so, and then we need to discuss what you did with JFK. 

Finally, we need to move on to chapter 3 of Language of Composition.

 We need to continue with the Language of Composition today - we need to finish the next two chapters of the text this week and next, and more back into WARRIOR WOMAN and 100 Great Essays.

HW: Do one question from the diction and one from syntax on page 55.

According to Dr. James Herron, “In the United States our identities are shaped by Race.  People think of themselves 1^st as white or black or native before they think of themselves as ‘American’”. This is different than other parts of the world.  Using Assata’s autobiography make a case for or against whether the U.S. is a racist society and suggest a solution.   

 

You must take a stance on the issue and create an argument using examples or evidence from Assata’s book.

 Today we are going to discuss Assata and then move onto to the rhetorical analysis questions. I want to look at a question from 2021 and some student responses and then go back to the prompt we were reading and marking up yesterday.
