Okay, so I'll be in Juneau (potentially) doing class to go see Poetry Out Loud finals. I will give you this last class to work on essays. Note, only Athena and Adalia seem to be finished so the rest of you should be working diligently.

Points to Remember
1. Determine whether you want to (a) explain an existing system of classification of (b) create your own system.
2. Divide your subject into smaller categories by applying the same principle of selection to each category.
3. Make sure that your division is complete by establishing separate and consistent types of categories.
4. Arrange your categories (and the examples you use to illustrate each category) in a logical and emphatic sequence.
5. Demonstrate the significance of your system by calling your readers’ attention to its significance.
Today, we need to discuss where you are in your essays, and you should begin your "Compare and Contrast" essay. If you need examples to look at please refer to the river reader

the complete units (divided) or specific features (alternating).
2. Consider the possibility of combining the two patterns.
3. Determine which subject should be placed in the first position and why.

5. Make sure you introduce and clarify the reasons for making your comparison.

Make sure you have a topic that you can use on all 7 essays and make sure you have an idea about how each essay works.

Today, we will look at "Process Analysis" in the river reader. We will also discuss the list of ideas you came up with for the "Modes of Writing" project, and finally work on your narration essay (this is the first essay for the project):
Today we are going to discuss ideas for your PROJECT, look at some previous examples, and read from the "Narration" chapter in the river reader.
We are going to continue to read and analyze "The Ballot or the Bullet" today. This week we will be practicing an AP MC - timed text - and a rhetorical analysis question test.
Tomorrow, we are going to do a synthesis essay. We'll look quickly at the synthesis rubric. Technically, you need 55 minutes to write a timed synthesis essay, so you might want to get her a few minutes early to start.
Today, I would like to discuss your reading last night, and to look at one last essay in this book. On Friday we will look at Malcolm X.
Today I want to discuss the essay we read yesterday and then get into another essay in the book called, "Blame it on the Blues" on page 91.
This week we are going to look at Angela Davis, Malcolm X, and return to the Synthesis Essay. Next week I will be giving you a series of in-class essay and a MC test. For the most part these are practice, but I do want to see how you are doing with them before we start next semester.
Next semester we will be writing the "MODES" project and reading Malcolm X. We will also be returning to looking at many shorter essays.

When you finish write a short paragraph about the following: Write about either work or money (or the link between them). Consider the values you ascribe to work and/or money. You may wish to consider what Rapaille, the author, says about them and whether you wish to endorse, qualify, or contest his ideas.
