HW: Read to page 36 in THE WOMAN WARRIOR (pages 19-36)

Friday

 Today, you need to turn in your Assata tests - if you haven't done so, and then we need to discuss what you did with JFK. 

Finally, we need to move on to chapter 3 of Language of Composition. 

Thursday

 We need to continue with the Language of Composition today - we need to finish the next two chapters of the text this week and next, and more back into WARRIOR WOMAN and 100 Great Essays.

HW: Do one question from the diction and one from syntax on page 55.

 ESSAY

Noam Chomsky once said, “The America that black people have always known is not an attractive one.”

According to Dr. James Herron, “In the United States our identities are shaped by Race.  People think of themselves 1^st as white or black or native before they think of themselves as ‘American’”. This is different than other parts of the world.  Using Assata’s autobiography make a case for or against whether the U.S. is a racist society and suggest a solution.   

 

You must take a stance on the issue and create an argument using examples or evidence from Assata’s book.  

RUBRIC:

Thesis - 1 point 

Evidence - 1 to 4 points

Sophistication - 1 point

Look at the handout at the beginning of class. 

 

Tuesday

 Today we are going to discuss Assata and read chapter 2 of the Language of Composition.

 TOMORROW'S POTENTIAL IN-CLASS ESSAY:

For the prompt - I want you to write the first paragraph: Intro, thesis statement, order of development. 

For thesis and order remember how and why the author does what he or she does.

 Today we are going to discuss Assata and then move onto to the rhetorical analysis questions. I want to look at a question from 2021 and some student responses and then go back to the prompt we were reading and marking up yesterday.
